“Killed” Queen: Live at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center

Estimated read time 2 min read

September 16, 2023 – I attended the Killer Queen tribute band to close out the summer season at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday evening. This was their first show on their latest tour.

My Dirty Life and Times

Maybe it was my lack of being liquored up like many who attended (including a newly married bride and groom complete in their wedding attire) but the show was underwhelming.

As with any tribute band, you always have to take it with a grain of salt. But as a “big act” performing at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, you expect better.

As expected they ran through the classic Queen hits (See video below) but the sound was flat and the singer didn’t have the range you would expect being that Freddie Mercury was a master of this. Often times turning to the crowd to sing the high parts to avoid attempting them. A ploy often used by the older generation singers (See Vince Neil of Motley Crue).

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt being it was their first show of a new tour and he may be working out the kinks (kept referring to it being a Friday night) but this was more a club show band than a national amphitheater act. Making yourself look like a band obviously isn’t enough.
