A Trail of Two Cities: E-Biking Along the Empire State Trail

The journey begins at the Albany–Helderberg Trail Head, a popular starting point for cyclists and walkers alike. From here, the trail winds northward, offering a mix of shaded woodland paths and open stretches with views of the Hudson River. Along the way, riders pass through charming neighborhoods and catch glimpses of Albany’s historic architecture before reaching the riverside.

The route continues toward Hudson Shores Park in Watervliet, a scenic spot perfect for a rest stop or picnic. The park’s riverfront location provides a refreshing break, with benches and open green space to enjoy the view. After taking in the sights, the return ride retraces the path back to Albany, making for a satisfying round‑trip adventure of roughly 10 miles.

This section of the Empire State Trail is ideal for casual cyclists and day‑trippers, combining accessibility with natural beauty. Whether you’re looking for exercise, photography opportunities, or simply a peaceful ride, it’s a rewarding way to experience New York’s Capital Region.
